Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh Rathore has encountered legal trouble in India for remarks questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Allahabad High Court rejected her anticipatory bail application last Friday (6 December), leaving open the possibility of her arrest.
The Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh denied her bail petition.
Neha had criticised the Prime Minister over the Pahalgam attack, which led to multiple cases being filed against her across Lucknow. She had approached the court to seek protection from these legal challenges.
Earlier in April, Neha had held the central government and the Prime Minister responsible for the attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
She said, “What should I ask the government? Education and healthcare are no longer priorities. At a time when nationalism and Hindu-Muslim divides are at their peak, people are losing their lives. Should I ask Muhammad Ali Jinnah instead of the government? The central government is biased based on religion. The country is operating on caste and religion.”
Her remarks caused widespread debate, prompting legal action by government supporters.
Neha defended her statements, insisting she had the right to question government failures as a citizen of a free nation. She clarified that she had not sung any provocative songs but only raised questions. The court, however, has left the legal process ongoing by denying bail for now.
