Shah Rukh’s ‘King’ to Be India’s Most Expensive Action Film

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is once again set to redefine cinematic extravagance with his upcoming film, King. The project has already sparked immense buzz, thanks to its staggering budget, state-of-the-art action sequences, and an ensemble of top-tier talent. Industry insiders are hailing it as potentially the most expensive action film in the history of Indian cinema.

According to reports by Bollywood Hungama, the film’s initial budget, under director Siddharth Anand, was pegged at ₹150 crore. However, as the scale of the story, stunts, and international-standard action sequences expanded, the costs have reportedly surged to approximately ₹350 crore, excluding marketing and promotional expenses.

Interestingly, King was originally conceptualised by acclaimed director Sujoy Ghosh, with Shah Rukh’s role initially intended to be relatively limited. When Siddharth Anand took over, he collaborated closely with Shah Rukh to reimagine the storyline, aiming to deliver an Indian action spectacle on par with global blockbusters.

The film promises six major action sequences, with three to be shot on actual locations and the remainder on meticulously designed sets. A considerable portion of the budget is reportedly dedicated to Shah Rukh Khan’s introduction scene, which is anticipated to be one of the film’s most visually striking moments.

King is produced by Gauri Khan and Mamta Anand, with Shah Rukh himself also listed as a producer. Industry analysts suggest that the combination of an unprecedented budget, intricate stunts, and Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement could make this one of the most ambitious projects of his illustrious career.
