Early Life and Education

Born on 12 August 1981 in New Delhi, Sachin Gupta grew up in a family that nurtured his creative instincts. Introduced to the guitar at the tender age of seven by his mother, he soon discovered that music would be his life’s calling.

Educated initially in science, Sachin attended The Frank Anthony Public School before spending a few years at Apeejay School, New Delhi. Having cleared entrance examinations for IIT Delhi in Mechanical Engineering, he later chose to pursue Physics (Honours) at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi. After a year, however, he transferred to Shaheed Bhagat Singh College to study B.Com (Honours) while continuing to pursue music in parallel.

By his late teens, Sachin was performing professionally. His passion for live performance saw him take the stage in more than 600 concerts across the world — including in Dubai, London, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia. He has performed at major international music festivals such as the Jazz Fest, Edinburgh Festival, and Scotland Fest.

During one of his shows in London, he met the Vice-President of Tips Films, which led to his relocation to Mumbai in 2005 — marking his transition into the world of film music.

Sachin was briefly married to Sasha Agha, daughter of veteran actress and singer Salma Agha. The marriage, however, was short-lived.

Musical Career

Sachin Gupta’s musical style is eclectic, blending elements of rock, classical, and contemporary pop. His breakthrough came with Atif Aslam’s album Doorie, where the distinct rock undertones of his compositions earned him critical acclaim in a period when the Indian pop and rock scene was struggling for visibility.

He went on to compose and produce tracks for a range of artists and projects, including:

  • Mika Singh’s album Dunali
  • Ashok Masti’s Clap on the Beat
  • Alisha Chinai’s Shut Up N Kiss Me
  • Collaborations with Apache Indian and UK-based producer Khiza
  • Work with Pakistani artists Jal, Adeel, and Ahmed Jahanzeb

Sachin has also created and produced music for two Indian fusion bands, Rooh and Ni9NE, known for blending classical Indian melodies with contemporary instrumentation.

Film Career

Sachin’s entry into Bollywood began with two promotional tracks, “Yaad Aaye Woh Din” and “Farishta”, for the film Strangers (2007), starring Jimmy Sheirgill and Kay Kay Menon.

His first full-fledged film as a music director was Dil Kabaddi (2008), featuring an ensemble cast including Irrfan Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Rahul Bose, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Rahul Khanna. The soundtrack was praised for its freshness and melodic quality, establishing him as a promising young composer in Hindi cinema.

Following this, he composed for Jugaad, starring Manoj Bajpayee, and also for Prince (2010), a Tips Film production directed by Kumar Taurani and starring Vivek Oberoi.

His later work includes the romantic drama Jo Hum Chahein, with lyrics by Kumaar, and the Y-Films (Yash Raj Films Youth Division) production Mere Dad Ki Maruti, where he once again teamed up with lyricist Kumaar.

Musical Style and Legacy

Sachin Gupta’s compositions carry a distinctly youthful, eclectic spirit, combining the discipline of classical melody with the energy of contemporary rock and pop. His guitar solos and arrangements showcase a finesse that bridges the sound of global rock instrumentation with Indian melodic sensibilities.

Over the years, he has built a reputation as a musician who thrives on experimentation while maintaining emotional depth and sonic sophistication. His journey — from live stages across continents to movie soundtracks — reflects a rare blend of passion, technical mastery, and creative authenticity.
