Sabrina Carpenter Headlines Coachella With Filmic Spectacle

Sabrina Carpenter transformed her headline slot at Coachella 2026 into a theatrical homage to Old Hollywood, blending cinematic storytelling, celebrity cameos and elaborate staging in one of the festival’s most ambitious productions to date.

The pop star closed the first weekend of the Californian desert festival on April 10, arriving on stage after previously teasing the moment in a playful “Nonsense” outro during her 2024 Coachella performance. This time, she delivered on the promise with a fully realised concept show that reimagined the festival grounds as a fictionalised “Sabrinawood”.

The performance opened with a stylised black-and-white film sequence showing Carpenter racing through the desert before being pulled over by a police officer portrayed by actor Sam Elliott. The cinematic motif continued as she arrived in a vintage car and walked a Walk of Fame-inspired runway leading to a set designed with rocky backdrops reminiscent of the Hollywood Hills.

A giant illuminated “Sabrinawood” sign dominated the stage, reinforcing the Old Hollywood fantasy. Carpenter opened her set with House Tour, followed by Taste and Busy Woman, before dancers dressed as poodles were led across the stage in a surreal, comedic interlude.

The set leaned heavily into theatrical cameos. Actor Susan Sarandon delivered a reflective monologue on the nature of fame from inside a vehicle, briefly shifting the tone of the show towards introspection. Later, comedian Will Ferrell appeared as a disgruntled electrician tasked with restoring a lighting failure mid-performance. Carpenter’s Girl Meets World co-star Corey Fogelmanis also featured as a waiter, while a pre-recorded voiceover from Samuel L. Jackson acted as a “spiritual guide” throughout the show.

Carpenter described the production in advance as her “most ambitious show yet”, and the second half escalated visually with dramatic lighting effects, audience participation and simulated rainfall. At one point, fans were invited to illuminate the desert with their phone flashlights, before Carpenter was elevated above the crowd as water poured around her.

The spectacle unfolded against a wider festival backdrop that continues to generate headlines. Jack White was confirmed as a last-minute addition to the weekend one line-up, while Lambrini Girls were reportedly removed from the bill. Elsewhere, headliner Karol G said she had been advised against using the phrase “ICE out” on stage due to potential visa implications.

This year’s Coachella line-up also includes major appearances from artists such as The xx, The Strokes, Nine Inch Noize (a collaboration between Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize), Disclosure, Turnstile, Ethel Cain, Addison Rae, Labrinth, David Byrne, Interpol, Alex G, BIGBANG, Laufey, Iggy Pop, FKA Twigs and Wet Leg.

Carpenter’s performance follows a year of rapid ascension in global pop, driven in part by the success of Espresso, which cemented her status as one of contemporary pop’s leading figures.
