Peter Hook & The Light to Celebrate 50 Years in Manchester

On 4 June 1976, Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto brought the Sex Pistols to Manchester for their historic first performance at the Lesser Free Trade Hall. Although the audience was modest, around 40 people, it included future legends of the city’s music scene: future members of The Smiths and The Fall, Tony Wilson of Factory Records, punk poet John Cooper Clarke, producer Martin Hannett, and a young Peter Hook with Bernard Sumner.

The following day, Hook purchased a bass guitar and went on to establish himself in British music history with Joy Division and New Order. Five decades later, he will celebrate the anniversary of that defining night.

On 4 June 2026, Peter Hook & The Light will perform a retrospective set at the Academy, featuring hits from Warsaw, Joy Division, New Order, Revenge, Monaco, and Freebass. Fans can expect a remarkable evening celebrating his musical career.

Special guests Buzzcocks, who also carved their place in British music history fifty years ago, will commemorate their 50th anniversary with songs including Harmony In My Head, What Do I Get?, and Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve).

This will be the only Peter Hook & The Light headline UK show in 2026. Pre-sale tickets are available from Wednesday, 3 December, with general sale beginning Friday, 5 December. Prior to this, the Get Ready UK tour saw Peter Hook & The Light perform the full seventh New Order album, followed by key tracks from Joy Division and New Order.
