Pantha Kanai, widely celebrated for his emotive singing, is set to make his acting debut in the upcoming film Rockstar. Known for his soulful tracks, he will also contribute to the film’s soundtrack, marking a dual role that has fans eagerly anticipating both his performance and musical contributions. In an exclusive conversation with Emdadul Haque Milton, Kanai shared insights about his latest work and future plans.
Musical Milestone: “Abar Chumki”
Kanai recently released the single Abar Chumki, a contemporary reimagining of his earlier hit Chumki Choleche Eka Poth. Reflecting on its reception, he said,
“The response has been phenomenal. Chumki has long been part of people’s memories, and even when it was remade previously, it received love. This time, with Abar Chumki, we planned carefully. Releasing it during the festive season has made it even more special.”
He elaborated on what differentiates this version from its predecessor:
“While we preserved the essence of the original, we gave it a fresh feel for the new generation. The music and arrangement are modern, but the video evokes nostalgia from the 1960s and ’70s, blending tradition with novelty.”
Kanai also appears in the music video himself, describing the experience as “fun and enjoyable,” noting that stepping in front of the camera offered a refreshing contrast to his usual musical work.
Stepping Into Acting: Rockstar
The film Rockstar presents a significant opportunity for Kanai, who will share the screen with superstar Shakib Khan.
“Working alongside Shakib Khan is exciting. I’ll gain valuable experience, and the character has been clearly explained to me by the director. I hope audiences will enjoy our work. The story is intriguing, focusing on the rise and fall of a fictional rockstar. While some may draw parallels with real lives, it is purely a fictional narrative.”
Kanai confirmed that this project allows him to combine acting with music—something he had previously missed in past projects where his songs went unused.
Upcoming Plans and Music School
Kanai also revealed plans for his music academy Drumbaz, which had been paused during the pandemic:
“I aim to teach the next generation guitar, drums, and singing. The dream continues, though my musical commitments limit my time.”
Looking ahead, he is preparing for Rockstar’s shooting, expected to start in the second week of next month, alongside new music releases.
| Project | Role | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abar Chumki | Singer, Video Appearance | Released | Modern arrangement with nostalgic video |
| Rockstar | Actor, Singer | Filming from next month | Shares screen with Shakib Khan |
| Drumbaz Music School | Mentor/Teacher | Planning | Resuming post-pandemic |
Kanai concluded with a message for his fans:
“Thank you for always supporting me. Listen to Abar Chumki, share it if you like, and stay tuned for more exciting work ahead.”
With a promising film debut and continued musical ventures, Pantha Kanai is set to strengthen his position as a versatile artist in both music and cinema.
