Northern Ireland Hip-Hop Band Announces ‘Fenian’

Renowned Northern Irish hip-hop collective Kneecap has officially announced the release of their highly anticipated new album, Fenian. Scheduled for 24 April 2026 via Heavenly Records, the album marks a significant creative statement following a turbulent year for the band’s frontman, Mo Chara (born Liam Óg Ó hAonáide). His recent legal entanglement has profoundly influenced the thematic direction of the new work.

Last year, during a London concert, Mo Chara faced allegations of displaying a Hezbollah flag and was charged under anti-terror legislation. Although the case was initially dismissed in September due to procedural time-bar issues, the prosecutor’s appeal has left the final verdict pending. The experience has visibly shaped Kneecap’s artistic response.

In a statement shared on social media, the band said:
“They tried to label us as ‘terrorists’, cancelled our concerts, and even the Prime Minister commented. That’s where our motivation comes from. This isn’t a hasty reaction but a deliberate pledge to those who sought to silence us. And they have failed.”

The album title, Fenian, reflects this defiant stance. The band explained:
“The term ‘Fenian’ originates from our homeland. In ancient Irish legend, it referred to heroic warriors, later adopted as a derogatory term against the Irish. We reclaim it in solidarity with those who speak truth to power.”

Kneecap further highlighted the resilience of Irish culture:
“Even after 800 years of colonial rule, they thought the Irish language would die—but it survived. Thanks to Muintir na Gaeltachta and the wider Gaelic community for preserving their language and heritage. Kneecap stands the same way… we have not been defeated. The Paddies have returned.”

Today, 28 January 2026, the band releases their new single, Liars Tale, which will premiere on BBC Radio 1, followed by streaming platforms and a YouTube video.

Looking ahead, Kneecap is set to headline a landmark show at Crystal Palace Park, London, alongside appearances at major international festivals including Boomtown, Reading & Leeds, and Primavera Sound in both Barcelona and Porto.
