National Recognition Shines on Prince Mahmud

Bangladeshi veteran composer and lyricist Prince Mahmud has recently been honoured with the National Film Award for Best Music Director for the song “Ishwar” from the film Priyatama. Having contributed consistently to the music industry since 1994, this recognition marks a particularly special moment in his illustrious career, acknowledging not only his creativity but also the deep connection he shares with his audience.

Reflecting on the award, Prince Mahmud stated, “Feelings often remain unspoken, yet this recognition brings them to life in a way words cannot. Receiving the National Film Award fills me with unparalleled joy, but it also brings a renewed sense of responsibility.” He extended heartfelt appreciation to the entire team of Priyatama and the jury members for their acknowledgment.

He further emphasised the role of supporters in his journey, noting, “Often, the disappointment of those who care for me—my family, friends, and listeners—was greater than my own when recognition eluded me. Their unwavering love and encouragement have always been my primary source of strength.”

Recent Work and Future Plans

Prince Mahmud’s compositions for the 2025 film Jongli have also earned critical acclaim. Looking ahead, he is developing music that pays tribute to Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War, honouring fallen young heroes and notable figures. Among these, he has already begun composing pieces dedicated to martyrs such as Abrar Fahad.

He elaborated, “These works are crafted with care and patience, infusing each song with my deepest emotions. It is this sincerity that evokes a distinct resonance with the audience.”

Currently, Prince Mahmud is preparing five new songs about the 1971 freedom fighters and martyred intellectuals, experimenting with entirely fresh musical arrangements. His ambition extends beyond mere recognition; he aims to create compositions that touch the hearts of listeners while highlighting the values of history, justice, and national pride.

This accolade and his forthcoming projects have further invigorated Prince Mahmud, promising a new wave of Bangladeshi music that blends innovation with heartfelt storytelling.
