In a remarkable display of musical talent, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon performed live at the TMSS Channel i Music Awards held yesterday evening at the five-star Mom Inn Hotel in Bogura. Responding to a request from Faridur Reza Sagor, Managing Director of Channel i, the minister sang an excerpt from the patriotic song “Prothom Bangladesh Amar, Shesh Bangladesh, Jibon Bangladesh, Amar Moron Bangladesh”, captivating the audience with his heartfelt rendition.
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Swapon emphasised the profound cultural significance of music. He stated, “Music is the most powerful medium to convey the subtleties of human sentiment. It is a unique language through which emotions can be expressed, transcending words and incapable of being replaced by any other form of communication. The delicate expressions bestowed upon humanity by nature can only be truly shared through music.”
He further added, “Those who carry these natural artistic gifts are a national treasure. Channel i is the only institution that has fully recognised this importance, supporting artists through awards and patronage. This initiative not only inspires the music community but also fosters appreciation among the general public. Through such efforts, a vital part of our civilisation continues to shine.”
The inauguration was attended by a distinguished assembly of guests, including Faridur Reza Sagor, television personality Shaikh Siraj, Muktijoddha Padak recipient Mukit Majumdar, Chairman of the Nature and Life Foundation, and Hosne Ara Begum, Executive Director of TMSS, among others.
The awards ceremony recognised achievements across 19 categories, including lifetime contributions to music. Veteran singer Konokchapa received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her decades-long dedication to the art form. Additionally, folk musician Kangalini Sufia was honoured with a special award for her significant contribution to traditional music.
