Max B Released From Prison After 16 Years

Max B was released from prison yesterday, 9th November, after serving 16 years behind bars. The Harlem-born rapper had been sentenced to 75 years in 2009 for his involvement in orchestrating a botched armed robbery that led to a man’s death. Although Max B was not physically present at the scene of the crime, he was still convicted. However, his sentence was later reduced to 20 years following the discovery of a conflict of interest in his original case and a plea deal on a charge of aggravated manslaughter.

In December of last year, Max B announced on the Joe Budden Podcast that his release date had been set for 9th November 2025. French Montana confirmed this release on social media yesterday, sharing the joyous news, “Can’t make this up! My brother really came home on my birthday! Hamdulillah walked it down! No more free you.”

Even while incarcerated, Max B continued to work on music, releasing projects like Vigilante Season in 2011, the Coke Wave 4 mixtape with French Montana, and even an interlude on Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo. Following his release, Max B will remain on parole for five years, a condition he confirmed in a letter posted to Instagram.

In a recent interview with OkayPlayer, Max B reflected on his time in prison, saying, “Producers send me tracks and I do what I do. When I really want to put something down, I sit and get it right. But for the most part, things just come to me. I can still make it sound good. Still got that buttery, milky voice for the ladies. That’s my inspiration—knowing I’m about to come back out here and do it all over again.”
