US-expat singer Muza has just released his latest track, “Maiya”, featuring London-based artist Sanjana. The song, with the catchy lines “Maiyar kotha amar eto bhalo lagilo / Pola amar kotha shuina prem jagilo” (“Her words charmed me so deeply / He heard my voice and fell in love”), was co-written by Bandhon and Muza, with music arranged by Muza himself.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Muza said, “We often get drawn to someone’s beauty, but it’s the personality that truly captures our hearts. That’s what we tried to express through Maiya.”
He added that the track was designed with celebrations—especially the wedding season—in mind. “This song is really special to me,” Muza shared. “There’s no echo or reverb effect on my vocals. I wanted to present a completely fresh, raw sound. The track is pop in nature, but with a hint of qawwali flair.”
Recalling how the collaboration began, Sanjana said, “I’ve known Muza since his very first release. The making of Maiya felt straight out of a film—someone opened the door to a dark studio, we exchanged greetings, and moments later, we were working on the song together.”
The choreography for Maiya was done by Hridi Sheikh, who also choreographed Muza’s debut song back in 2018. After seven years, the duo reunited for this project. “Since it’s a wedding-season track, we planned everything around that festive mood,” Hridi explained. “Not just the dance moves, but also the set design, costumes, lighting, and the number of dancers—every element was given equal importance.”
Maiya is now streaming on Muza’s official YouTube channel, and early listeners are saying it’s a tune that makes you fall in love at first listen!
