Lewis Capaldi has unveiled his poignant new single, The Day That I Die, from his highly anticipated EP Survive. The emotional ballad marks Capaldi’s fourth release since his return to the music scene, following Survive, Something In The Heavens, and Almost. Described as his “most raw and personal songs to date”, the track, along with the other songs on the EP, dives deep into Capaldi’s emotions, offering a glimpse into the personal struggles that have shaped his music.
The track is a stripped-back, melancholic piece, featuring Capaldi’s signature soulful vocals over a gentle piano arrangement. In the lyrics, he poignantly reflects on his relationships with family, singing:
“On the day that I leave, I hope the memories find you happy,
And my dad ain’t too mad at me, to say the least,
Pray my sister gets to sleep,
I wish I could have said it better, what all those times we had together meant to me.”
This release follows Capaldi’s triumphant return to the stage, where he recently wrapped up his 2025 UK live shows. These performances marked his first tour dates in two years, following a period of health struggles related to Tourette’s syndrome. He had previously been forced to cut his 2023 Glastonbury set short due to his condition.
In addition to his musical comeback, Capaldi has teamed up with BetterHelp, providing 734,000 hours of free online therapy. Speaking about the collaboration, he said, “Therapy is the reason why I am able to be a musician again.” This partnership reflects his ongoing commitment to mental health, with Capaldi also playing warm-up shows in May to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.
To round off his exciting return, Capaldi has announced a 2026 UK and Ireland tour, including a headline performance at BST Hyde Park. Here’s a look at the new tour dates:
