Legendary Rockers Still on Top

Heart’s concert at the Giant Centre in Hershey on 14 December was a triumphant celebration of classic rock. The legendary band reminded fans why they are considered icons of the genre, delivering a performance that combined nostalgia, skill, and energy.

The night kicked off with Starship, fronted by Mickey Thomas, performing hits that traced the legacy of Jefferson Airplane through Jefferson Starship. Vocals from Chelsee Foster shone on classics such as “White Rabbit” and “(Don’t You Want) Somebody to Love,” while Thomas himself delivered “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with enduring charm. His playful interaction with the crowd set the tone for a night of lively engagement.

Heart then took the stage, immediately captivating the audience. Ann Wilson’s powerful voice filled the arena, proving that the band’s legendary sound has not faded. Nancy Wilson contributed both vocals and masterful guitar work, singing lead on “These Dreams” and harmonising beautifully on tracks like “Never” and “Straight On.” Their ensemble of instrumentalists, praised by Nancy as the band’s finest lineup yet, provided flawless support.

Between songs, the Wilson sisters shared anecdotes, recalling their early days performing anywhere they could find electricity, and expressing gratitude for decades of fan loyalty. They also confirmed their admiration for Led Zeppelin, delighting fans with covers of “California Song,” “The Ocean,” and “The Rain Song.” Additional covers included David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Joni Mitchell’s “River,” adding seasonal charm.

Nancy’s solo acoustic performance of “For Edward” was particularly poignant, inspired by a gift she once gave to Eddie Van Halen. The story behind the song added emotional depth to her virtuosic playing.

The concert featured classic Heart anthems, from the ferocious opening of “Crazy On You” to the uplifting “Dog & Butterfly.” A mash-up of “Alone” and “What About Love” preceded a playful faux exit, before the band returned for an electrifying encore with “Barracuda.”

For many fans, the evening was a nostalgic journey, reaffirming Heart’s position as one of rock’s most enduring and beloved acts. The band’s Hershey performance showed that true rock legends never lose their spark, even after decades in the spotlight.
