Kings Of Leon have revealed that they’ve written a Christmas song, though fans may have to wait before hearing it. The Nashville rock band’s frontman, Caleb Followill, admitted that while the song exists, it “might just be too Christmassy” to release.
During a recent interview on Radio X, Caleb and his brother and bandmate Jared discussed the potential festive track. “That might be happening,” Caleb teased. “There’s a song that has been written, and it might just be too Christmassy.”
When host Dan O’Connell suggested it’s nearly impossible for a song to be “too Christmassy,” Caleb responded with a wry smile, “I mean, how many jingle bells can you put on a song?” His comments highlight the band’s playful, yet cautious approach to holiday music.
Caleb also reflected on classic rock and roll Christmas songs. When discussing his favourite festive tune, Julian Casablancas’ I Wish It Was Christmas Today, Caleb revealed it was originally a Jimmy Fallon song performed on Saturday Night Live in 2001. “It was a skit, and then he did it. Anytime there’s a great Christmas song and it’s someone that you love, it makes you think, ‘Maybe we could make a Christmas song,’” he said.
He added, “But it’s so hard. The great ones are just so great, and the bad ones are so bad!” It’s clear the band is aware of the fine line between a memorable holiday song and a forgettable one.
Last year, Kings Of Leon released their ninth studio album, Can We Please Have Fun, which NME rated three stars, describing it as “KOL’s most promising, liberated record in over a decade, but still surprisingly restrained in places.” Caleb described the album as a reflection of hard work and passion, inspired by the everyday stories of people living in Nashville, the famed Music City.
The band has also been active with singles and EPs this year, despite a minor setback when Caleb broke his foot in a “freak accident” while playing with his children. They returned to live shows in July and have continued to release new music.

With Kings Of Leon now teasing a festive release, fans may soon be treated to a new holiday anthem—assuming it’s not “too Christmassy” to handle.
