In memory of the legendary singer, composer, and renowned flautist, the late Bari Siddiqui, the Bari Siddiqui Memorial Council has established an annual award to honor individuals contributing significantly to the preservation and promotion of folk music. This year, the prestigious Bari Siddiqui Memorial Award was presented to the talented contemporary artist Kaniz Khondakar Mitu.
The award ceremony took place recently at the Chhoto Kachachar Mela auditorium in Dhaka, where Mitu was conferred with the honor amidst a distinguished gathering of artists and industry figures. The event celebrated not only Bari Siddiqui’s legacy but also the ongoing contribution of modern-day artists to folk music and culture.
Upon receiving the award, Mitu shared her feelings with the audience, stating, “I am deeply proud to receive this honor on the 71st birth anniversary of the great magician of melodies, the exceptional composer, lyricist, and enchanting flautist, the late Bari Siddiqui. This award is not just a personal achievement, but it also serves as an inspiration for me to continue my lifelong dedication to the tradition of folk music, our indigenous songs, and culture. I am truly grateful for the love, support, and blessings I have received from all who have stood by me.”
Mitu, who is not only known for her vocal talent but also as a researcher of folk music, expressed that the recognition would encourage her to further her commitment to preserving and promoting Bangladesh’s rich musical heritage. She further stated, “This award will propel my career forward and inspire me to work even harder to contribute to the continuity and growth of folk music.”
Her work continues to inspire and energise the new generation of music lovers, positioning her as a figure who bridges the past and the present in the evolution of Bangladeshi music.
