Jelly Roll is enjoying his first-ever tour of Australia, but it seems the country superstar has encountered a bit of a setback during his trip. The singer, who has made a remarkable comeback despite his troubled past, has been performing across the country as part of the inaugural Strummingbird Festival, with stops in Queensland, Newcastle, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, and the Harvest Rock festival.
While his tour has been largely a success, Jelly Roll shared an amusing yet frustrating experience in a recent Instagram Story. On Wednesday (5th November), the “Son of a Sinner” singer revealed that he had visited a Louis Vuitton store in Sydney, only to feel like he was being treated with suspicion.
“The Louis Vuitton in Sydney, legitimately just treated us like we were gonna come in and rob that place,” Jelly Roll said with a laugh, the store’s logo visible in the background. “I have never been looked at more like a crim… Listen, the last time I was looked at like a criminal this bad… I was an actual criminal this bad.”
The 40-year-old singer, who has overcome a history of legal troubles dating back to his teenage years, including multiple arrests on drug charges, seemed to find some humour in the incident. Despite his past, Jelly Roll is now focused on his flourishing career and making the most of his tour down under.
Earlier this year, Jelly Roll announced his first international dates, including shows in Canada for June 2024. His previous legal issues had prevented him from performing outside the United States until recently, but it appears he is now making up for lost time with his Australian adventure.
Aside from his shopping misadventure, Jelly Roll has been making the most of his time in Australia, debating Celsius versus Fahrenheit with locals, snapping photos in front of the iconic Sydney Opera House, discovering Australian football, and even joining in on the popular Aussie tradition of a “shoey” with his drummer.
Jelly Roll’s Australian tour isn’t over just yet, with two more shows on the horizon: a gig in Townsville at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Thursday (6th November) and a performance at the Outer Fields at Western Springs in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday (8th November).
