Imran Mahmudul Sings Under Female Composer for First Time

In a groundbreaking moment for Bangladeshi cinema, celebrated singer Imran Mahmudul has for the first time performed a song composed by a female musician. The track, “Kothay Pabo Tahare”, from the newly released film Dum, features both lyrics and composition by Parsha Mahjabin Purni, who also shares vocals with Imran. Released during Chandratra, the song has quickly captured attention for its emotive depth and distinctive melodic appeal.

Parsha first gained public recognition during the July 2024 movement with her song “Cholo Bhule Jai”, earning widespread acclaim. Since then, she has showcased her versatility as an actress on television and OTT platforms. With Dum, she assumes the dual role of composer and lyricist for a feature film, marking a significant milestone in her creative journey.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Imran shared, “This is the first time I’ve sung a song composed by a female musician. It was an entirely new experience. Purni has written and composed brilliantly. The song is like a long-distance race—it slowly but surely finds its way into people’s hearts.”

He also praised their long-term professional connection: “I’ve known Purni since 2017 and have admired her writing from the beginning. When she first sent me this composition, I knew instantly it was perfect. It has become an extraordinary song.”

Parsha spoke of their creative rapport, saying, “I can share everything with Imran; he is like a mentor and a close friend. When I played him the song, he immediately understood the vision I had for it.”

The music video for Kothay Pabo Tahare features Dum’s lead actors, Afran Nisho and Puja Cherry. While this marks Imran’s first song in a Nisho-starrer, the pair share a history: Nisho appeared in the music video for Imran’s early hit “Tumi Dure Dure Ar Theko Na”. Imran reflected, “Although it’s my first song for his film, Nisho and I have a long story. After many years, returning to a project with him feels special. I hope this song touches everyone’s hearts.”

Directed by Redwan Rony, Dum is a survival drama inspired by true events, marking Rony’s return to filmmaking after a decade. Produced by SVF–Alpha i Entertainment Limited, the film was released nationwide during Eid 2026.

In addition to Dum, Imran has contributed vocals to other Eid releases, including “Shuddhatar Prem” and “Tumi Chara” from Siam’s Rakshas, and “Pori” from Shakib Khan’s Prince. Notably, Pori represents Imran’s first musical composition for a Shakib Khan film in eight years.
