‘If I Could Fly’: Scott Weiland’s Long-Hidden Song Released a Decade After His Passing

A decade after Scott Weiland’s death, fans have been given a deeply personal gift—an unreleased track titled If I Could Fly. Composed in 2000 following the birth of his son, the song remained untouched in his archive for 25 years.

Shared first for Record Store Day Black Friday, it has now been released widely, with vinyl arriving on 19 December.
His Facebook page noted, ‘‘This is the first unheard song since Scott’s passing—an intimate, honest glimpse into his heart.’’

The message also reflected on Weiland’s musical legacy: Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, global tours, awards, and tens of millions of records sold. ‘‘Songs like this explain why fans remained attached to him for decades,’’ the post stated.

The chorus reveals a father’s tenderness as he sings to Noah:
“If I could fly I would lift you up and pull you out of the mudslide…”

Weiland died in his sleep during a tour stop in 2015. His management and family later confirmed the news publicly.
