Hilary Duff is back in the spotlight with her first album in over a decade, reminding fans what “dreams are made of.”
The singer and actress revealed that her new album, titled luck…or something, will be released soon. This marks Duff’s first full-length album since Breathe In. Breathe Out. in 2015. Co-written with her husband, Grammy-winning producer Matthew Koma, the album promises to be a reflection on Duff’s journey into adulthood since her early days as the star of Lizzie McGuire on Disney Channel.
“I’m often asked how I’ve managed to keep my head on straight after growing up in this industry,” Duff shared in a statement. “The album title is my way of answering that question.” She continued, “It’s luck, but there’s also a lot of weight in the ‘…or something.’ Many of the things I’ve been through along the way are held there, and I feel like ultimately that’s what’s shaped me.”
Mature Marks Duff’s Comeback
The album’s lead single, Mature, was released on November 6, marking Duff’s return to the music scene. The track, which features a bubbly ’80s-inspired sound, explores a time in Duff’s life when she dated someone much older and had a naive view of romance.
In the song, Duff sings, “She looks like she could be your daughter / Like me before I got smarter,” reflecting on her younger self. “When I was flattered to hear you say / ‘You’re so mature for your age, babe.'”
Though the track is described as “autofiction” in its release notes, fans quickly speculated that Mature could reference Duff’s past relationship with Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden, who she dated when she was 16 and he was 25. The two split in 2006, and Madden later married Nicole Richie, while Duff married Matthew Koma in 2019, following her divorce from retired hockey player Mike Comrie.
Any rumours of tension were dispelled when Nicole Richie publicly congratulated Duff on her return to music, sharing her support on Instagram on November 11.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the full album, which is sure to offer more glimpses into Hilary Duff’s personal growth and evolution since her Disney days.
