Gnarls Barkley Return With Final Album

After an 18-year hiatus, CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse have resurrected their acclaimed musical project, Gnarls Barkley, for one final studio album. Titled Atlanta, the record is set for release on 6 March under the Atlantic-affiliated label 10k Projects, marking a highly anticipated return to collaborative music for the duo. The album’s lead single, “Pictures”, was unveiled on 25 February, heralding their first new studio output since 2008.

“Pictures” draws heavily on Green’s childhood experiences travelling on Atlanta’s MARTA public transit system, where long hours alone on the train inspired its reflective tone. In a statement, he recalled, “I had a middle school principal who, every Friday, would tell me to leave school when I arrived. I was in eighth grade and would ride the train alone from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.” The track captures a mixture of youthful solitude and the rhythms of urban life, providing a deeply personal backdrop for the album.

Though Gnarls Barkley have not released a record since 2008’s The Odd Couple, both artists have remained prolific individually.
