Debate Heats Up Over Alleged Copycat Look in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’ Teaser

The eagerly awaited teaser for Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King was released on November 2, coinciding with the superstar’s 60th birthday. In the video, Khan is seen sporting a silver-haired look and delivering high-octane action sequences, making a dramatic return to the screen. Within hours of its release, the teaser went viral, sparking widespread excitement and anticipation among his fans.

However, along with the praise, the teaser has also ignited a wave of comparisons. One particular scene, where Shah Rukh is seen wearing a blue shirt paired with a mustard yellow jacket, has drawn attention. Many viewers quickly pointed out the resemblance to a similar look worn by Hollywood actor Brad Pitt in the movie F1. The debate on social media intensified, with some fans accusing the Bollywood star of copying Brad Pitt’s style.

Yet, die-hard Shah Rukh Khan fans were quick to counter these claims, sharing proof that Khan had worn a similar outfit in the 2017 film Jab Harry Met Sejal. A Bollywood enthusiast posted a side-by-side comparison of three frames, with the caption:

“Here’s the new logic for the haters:

  • Fighter jets = Top Gun copy
  • Ships = Titanic copy
  • Same outfit = F1 copy
  • Orange outfits = Anti-Hindu!”

The post, complete with two laughing emojis, caught the attention of director Siddharth Anand, who chimed in to humorously acknowledge the comparisons. Anand, who is also the director of King, pointed out that this wasn’t the first time his work had been accused of copying. His previous film Fighter had faced similar allegations of borrowing from Top Gun, while Shah Rukh’s Pathaan had sparked religious controversy over Deepika Padukone’s saffron bikini.

King promises to be an ensemble affair, featuring not only Shah Rukh Khan but also a star-studded cast that includes Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Raghav Juyal, among others. There are also rumors that Abhishek Bachchan will play the primary antagonist.

Produced by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, alongside Siddharth Anand’s Marflix, King has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film is slated for a global release in 2026, although an exact date has not yet been announced.
