Traditionally, children are introduced to music through fairy tales, playful rhymes, or cheerful stories. However, a recently released song has challenged this conventional notion. The third original composition sung by child artist Mrinmoyi Megha, titled In the Land of Disbelief, presents questions and reflections aimed squarely at adults. While its opening lines may initially strike listeners as unusual, the song’s underlying message lingers and provokes thoughtful reflection.
The lyrics and composition were created by architect and musician Enamul Karim Nirjhar, with musical arrangement by Autumnal Moon. The song was released on the GaanShala EKNC YouTube channel, accompanied by a video directed by Mujahid Mizab, in which Mrinmoyi Megha features as the central performer.
Some of the lyrics, such as:
“An empty pot clangs to a chaotic tune, we hear whatever spins around / A guard sits at history’s nose, rubbing fate in a drowsy haze all day / In the land of disbelief, try doing something, love a little…”
reflect adult society and behaviour through the innocent lens of a child. Though hints of political realities surface, the delivery remains entirely non-political.
Explaining the inspiration behind the song, Enamul Karim Nirjhar said, “These are times when it’s hard to know whose words matter. Children often sense the injustices around them, yet they cannot voice them. I thought that if children could sing about adults, perhaps it might reach everyone’s ears—and maybe help restore a little common sense.”
Mrinmoyi Megha shared her experience, stating, “This is my second song with Uncle Nirjhar’s lyrics and melody, and Uncle Moon’s music. I truly enjoyed singing this one too. The video turned out beautifully. I hope everyone prays for me so I can keep performing even more wonderful songs.”
The following table summarises Mrinmoyi Megha’s three original songs to date:
