Billie Eilish Urges Gun Reform Following Devastating Global Shootings

Pop sensation Billie Eilish has once again used her platform to call for stricter gun control, following a series of tragic shootings across the United States and Australia. In an Instagram Story posted on Sunday, 14 December 2025, Eilish paid tribute to the victims while urging her followers to exercise their right to vote.

Today is the anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, and we woke up to the news of mass shootings in Australia, at Brown University, and in Brooklyn,” Eilish wrote. She described the events as “so devastating”, adding, “my heart goes out to all of the victims and their loved ones.”

The nine-time Grammy winner encouraged her fans to “raise your voice, work for change, and vote out anyone who’s not willing to reform gun policy.” Eilish has long been vocal in her advocacy for gun reform, previously joining The Artist for Action to Prevent Gun Violence coalition in 2023 alongside musicians including Sheryl Crow, Peter Gabriel, and Rufus Wainwright.

The reference to Sandy Hook Elementary marks a somber anniversary: on 14 December 2012, a gunman entered the school in Newtown, Connecticut, killing 26 people, including 20 children aged six and seven. Exactly thirteen years later, similarly violent incidents occurred within a 24-hour span across three locations worldwide.

  • Bondi Beach, Sydney: At least 15 people were killed during a Hanukkah celebration after a gunman opened fire.

  • Brooklyn, New York: Six teenagers were shot and wounded at a birthday party.

  • Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island: Two people were killed and nine others injured, with authorities still searching for the suspect.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, the United States has already recorded 392 mass shootings in 2025, reflecting a continuing national crisis that advocates like Eilish are determined to address.

Eilish’s latest statement underscores the global concern over gun violence and highlights the importance of civic engagement in seeking policy reforms to prevent further tragedies.
