A special musical event, Jolsarat, took place in Sydney with participation from the Bengali-speaking diaspora in Australia. Organised by Novera, the event began at 7 pm last Saturday at the Harold Corr Community Hall, offering the audience a blend of old classics and contemporary Bengali music.
Through modern songs, ghazals, Lalon songs, and 1990s band hits, the audience was transported through different eras and melodies. Attendees enjoyed the performances attentively throughout the evening.
The first segment, hosted by Pushpita Chowdhury, featured performances by Sudipa Ghosh, Preeti Roy, and Shyamali Debray. The second segment saw the Splash Music Group perform, including Piyush Sarkar, Suman Roy, Logan Pal, and Shaon Sarkar. Their 1990s band performances created notable excitement among the audience.
After the programme, attendees expressed that amid busy expatriate lives, such events reconnect them with Bengali culture. The organisers stated plans to host larger events in the future and to establish a regular initiative for cultural exchange with expatriate artists.
