Ankhi, Arfin Set for Baishakhi Show In Japan

The vibrant celebration of Bengali New Year, “Baishakhi Mela 2026,” is once again set to illuminate the cultural landscape of Japan, bringing together the Bangladeshi diaspora in a grand expression of heritage, music, and community spirit.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, 12 April 2026, and will take place at the scenic Litpia Park in Misato City, within Saitama Prefecture. Organised by the Baishakhi Mela Japan Management Committee, the festival has become a significant annual occasion for expatriate Bangladeshis, offering a rare opportunity to reconnect with cultural roots while living abroad.

According to organisers, this year’s edition is expected to be larger and more engaging than previous ones, with a full-day programme designed to appeal to all age groups. The festival will open in the morning and continue into the evening, featuring live musical performances, cultural showcases, and community activities.

A major attraction of “Baishakhi Mela 2026” will be the appearance of two of Bangladesh’s most popular contemporary singers, Ankhi Alamgir and Arfin Rumey. Their live performances are expected to draw substantial crowds, particularly among young expatriates who follow Bangladeshi music closely. Both artists are known for their dynamic stage presence and wide-ranging repertoires, blending modern and traditional Bangla music styles.

The musical programme will also feature a supporting team of experienced instrumentalists, including Bappi, Rana, Ujjal, and Mehdi, who will accompany the main performances and ensure a rich live sound experience throughout the day.

Beyond its entertainment value, the event is intended to serve a deeper cultural purpose. Organisers have highlighted that the festival plays an important role in preserving Bengali identity among second-generation Bangladeshis in Japan. Through traditional food stalls, cultural exhibitions, and interactive community spaces, younger participants will be introduced to the customs, language, and festive traditions of Bangladesh.

The organisers further emphasised that Baishakhi Mela is not merely a festival but a symbolic platform for unity, where expatriates can strengthen social bonds and celebrate shared heritage in a foreign environment.
