Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar recently opened up about one of the most talked-about photographs in Bollywood. In 2018, he posted an image on his Instagram account that went viral and sparked intense discussions across the internet. The reason? The photograph featured some of the biggest stars in the industry, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh, all sitting together on the same sofa, smiling and enjoying each other’s company – a sight rarely seen in Bollywood.
In a recent appearance on Sania Mirza’s podcast Serving It Up with Sania, Karan shared the true story behind the picture. He revealed, “It was Ranbir Kapoor’s birthday, just before the pandemic hit. It was an emotional day, as his father (the late Rishi Kapoor) wasn’t in the best of health. Yet, we all gathered to celebrate his birthday. Everyone who was invited showed up, and then, out of nowhere, we decided to click that picture. And that’s when it went viral.”
Reflecting on the image, Karan added, “Look at the amazing cast! It’s a mega-cast. I don’t think it’s easy to get all these actors in one frame again. While it may not be as iconic as Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscar selfie, it’s definitely a picture that will go down in history.”
At the time of sharing the photo, Karan had captioned it, “This is not just a picture, it’s a blockbuster moment.”
