Sabina Yasmin Brings Her Music to London and Scotland

Bangladeshi music legend Sabina Yasmin has travelled to the United Kingdom to perform at two cultural events in London and Scotland, giving expatriate Bangladeshi audiences an opportunity to hear one of the country’s most celebrated voices live.

The veteran singer left Dhaka on a flight at 7.40am on Sunday as part of her UK tour. According to her schedule, she is due to perform at a concert in London on 11 October, before travelling to Scotland for another musical programme on 15 October. She is expected to return to Bangladesh on 18 October.

Sabina is being accompanied on the tour by tabla player Chandan Dutta, lead guitarist Monowar Hossain Tutul and keyboard player Partha Pratim Bappy. Their participation will provide musical support during the performances in the UK.

Chandan Dutta said the 17th London Bangla Book Fair and Literary-Cultural Festival will begin on 10 October at The Brady Arts & Community Centre on Hanbury Street in East London. Sabina Yasmin is scheduled to perform on the second day of the festival at a venue in Mayfair.

The London Bangla Book Fair and Literary-Cultural Festival has become an important platform for the expatriate Bangladeshi community to celebrate Bengali language, literature and culture. Alongside books and literary activities, cultural performances allow audiences living abroad to maintain a connection with their linguistic and cultural heritage.

Such events also provide an opportunity for younger generations growing up outside Bangladesh to experience aspects of Bengali culture. Music, in particular, can create a direct connection with the traditions and artistic heritage of their parents and wider community.

Sabina Yasmin said she performed at the London Bangla Book Fair and Literary-Cultural Festival last year as well. She expressed happiness at being invited to take part in the event again, noting its special significance for expatriate Bengalis. She also stressed the importance of such initiatives in keeping younger generations connected with the Bengali language and culture.

Following her London engagement, Sabina will travel to Scotland for the 15 October programme. She is hoping to receive the same warmth and enthusiasm from audiences there as she has experienced from Bangladeshi communities elsewhere.

With a career spanning several decades, Sabina Yasmin has established herself as one of the most influential and respected voices in Bangladesh’s music scene. Her extensive body of popular songs has earned her a lasting place in the country’s musical heritage, while her overseas performances continue to attract considerable interest among expatriate Bangladeshis.

Her latest UK visit therefore carries significance beyond the two performances themselves. For Bengali-speaking audiences in London and Scotland, the appearances offer a chance to experience the music of a legendary Bangladeshi singer while celebrating their cultural roots far from home.
