American singer and actress Selena Gomez has been named in a lawsuit filed in a Delaware federal court by a group of venture investors, who allege fraud, breach of contract, and a failure to fulfil operational commitments regarding her mental health startup, Wondermind Global.

The legal action, brought forward by investment vehicles including Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind SPV, claims that the plaintiffs were misled into investing nearly $1.2 million (£940,000) in Series A preferred stock following the venture’s launch in 2021. The startup was pitched as an inclusive platform designed to democratise mental fitness through accessible content, routine exercises, and dedicated digital tools.

Central to the complaint is the allegation that Ms Gomez, who boasts more than 500 million followers across her social media channels, failed to deliver on contractual promises to leverage her global profile actively as the head of marketing and chief impact officer. According to court documents, the founders also failed to launch a promised flagship mobile application and fabricated prospective commercial partnerships with major corporate entities.

The legal filing paints a stark picture of internal mismanagement, asserting that Ms Gomez “purported to sign a contract obligating her to perform and then ignored it”. The plaintiffs allege that there was “no legitimate enterprise in the works, much less a lucrative one”, pointing out that Wondermind failed to meet rudimentary operational obligations, including the timely payment of staff salaries and vendor invoices.

The investors claim they were kept in the dark regarding the startup’s precarious financial state for nearly three years, discovering the true extent of the internal disarray only after media reports exposed widespread operational instability in September 2025.

The plaintiffs are seeking a full rescission of their stock purchases to recoup their original investment alongside coverage for legal expenses. Representatives for Ms Gomez have not yet issued an official response to the filing.
