Renowned Bangladeshi singer Ankhi Alamgir is set to make a long-awaited return to Japan, two decades after her first performance there in late 2002. She will perform at the upcoming ‘Boishakhi Mela 2026’, organised by the Bangladeshi expatriate community, at Litpia Park in Mishato City, Saitama Prefecture on 12 April. The festival aims to introduce Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage to the younger generation living in Japan while fostering camaraderie among the expatriate community.
Speaking about her return, Ankhi expressed immense excitement. She said,
“I first visited Japan for a show twenty years ago. At that time, I performed alongside esteemed artists such as Kumar Bishwajit, Hanif Sanket, Baby Naznin, Robi Chowdhury, Dolly Sayantoni, Moushumi, and several others. I was quite young then. This time, I am leading the performance myself. I will depart for Japan on 8 April and hope the event will be spectacular, enchanting everyone with our music. I am grateful to the organisers for inviting me and my team.”
New Music Release
Coinciding with the Bengali New Year, Ankhi will also release a brand-new original song titled ‘Ami Mane Tumi’. The song has been penned by Plabon Qureshi and composed by Belal Khan, who also joins Ankhi in a duet. The music video has been directed by Chandan Roy Chowdhury.
Reflecting on the project, Ankhi shared,
“This is my first collaboration with Belal. The song has a rhythmic quality and is very melodious. Chandan has put in meticulous effort to create the music video. I hope everyone enjoys it.”
She further revealed that she is working on several more new tracks while simultaneously preparing for her upcoming stage performances.
