BTV Celebrates Independence Day with Grand Day-long Broadcasts

To honour the profound spirit of the Liberation War and the ultimate sacrifices of the martyrs, Bangladesh Television (BTV) has unveiled an extensive and vibrant day-long broadcasting schedule. This year’s programming is meticulously curated to resonate with the historical weight of 26 March 1971, seamlessly blending nostalgic retrospectives with contemporary artistic performances to celebrate the nation’s 56th Independence and National Day.

A Morning of Melodies and Poetic Verse

The state broadcaster will commence its special transmission with a solemn yet stirring atmosphere. At 10:35 AM, BTV will air a special musical programme featuring classic patriotic tracks that have come to define the Bengali identity. This will be followed at 12:00 PM by a dedicated poetry recitation session. During this segment, renowned elocutionists will perform verses that capture the essence of the struggle for freedom and the indomitable will of the people who fought for sovereignty.

The midday segment features a marquee musical show titled “Shadhinota Ek Golap Photano Din” (Independence: A Day of Blooming Roses) at 12:45 PM. This star-studded event includes performances by beloved vocalists such as Dithi, Anwar, Piyal Hasan, Sohel Mehedi, and Champa Banik, among others. The repertoire focuses on the songs that once inspired the Mukti Bahini (Freedom Fighters) during the arduous nine-month-long conflict.

Historical Analysis and Literary Tributes

To provide a deeper intellectual context to the festivities, BTV will air a unique analytical programme at 1:30 PM. This segment focuses on international media coverage from March 1971, examining how newspapers and broadcasters across the globe reported on the declaration of independence and the initial resistance against the occupying forces.

As the afternoon progresses, the focus shifts toward original creative works. At 4:30 PM, a self-composed poetry session will be broadcast, giving modern poets a platform to express their gratitude to the veterans of 1971. This is followed by another musical session at 5:00 PM and a special discussion programme at 6:00 PM regarding the socio-political significance of national sovereignty in the modern era.

The Evening Highlight: “Ora Chhilen Bolei”

The evening’s centrepiece is a special television drama titled “Ora Chhilen Bolei” (Because They Were There), scheduled to air at 9:00 PM. Written by Abdul Aziz and produced by Nasir Uddin, the play explores the profound themes of sacrifice and the harrowing yet heroic tales of those who stood on the frontlines of the revolution.

The cast features a blend of veteran and contemporary actors, including:
