Legendary British singer and electronic music pioneer Gary Numan was visibly emotional on stage over the weekend, breaking down in tears after revealing he had received the “worst news ever.”
The incident occurred on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at the O2 Academy in Birmingham. While performing his iconic song ‘Please Push No More’, Numan paused mid-set, appearing visibly distressed.
According to reports, Numan’s wife Gemma O’Neill came on stage to comfort him. The singer told fans that he had received devastating news earlier that morning. While he did not disclose the details, he promised to share more once he had time to process the information.
Fans took to social media immediately to offer support. One fan wrote,
“Gary Numan @ Birmingham O2 tonight. Absolutely, utterly outstanding. But seeing him so upset during ‘PPNM’ was heartbreaking. I hope it isn’t anything too bad.”
Another expressed concern:

The following day, 16 November, Numan continued his tour in Bristol, although he cancelled the planned meet-and-greet with fans due to “ongoing difficulties.”
This tour is part of Numan’s ‘Telekon’ tour, celebrating the 45th anniversary of his 1980 chart-topping album of the same name. Recently, Numan shared on social media that he had now completed 1,000 live shows, reflecting on the dedication, sacrifice, and challenges that come with such a milestone.
He commented,
“Playing 1,000 shows is quite something. Each tour is a life within a life, a world within a world. I have toured my entire adult life, evolving from a nervous, sulky young man to what I am today. It’s a life like no other, and I feel privileged to share this journey with so many of you.”
