Farah Khan, the celebrated filmmaker and choreographer, has carved a new niche for herself as a content creator on YouTube. Known for her directorial hits such as Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, and Tees Maar Khan, Khan hasn’t directed a film in over a decade since Happy New Year. However, she has embraced a new direction in her career, revealing that it was the need to adapt to a changing world—and financial pressures—that led her to take up YouTube.
In an exclusive interview on Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, the 60-year-old Khan discussed the reasons behind her decision to launch her YouTube channel. “Even when my movie career was on a break, I thought, let me try YouTube. I can see the potential,” she said. “I also have three kids who are heading to university next year, and that’s bloody expensive!” Khan, who has 17-year-old triplets, Czar, Anya, and Diva, with her filmmaker-husband Shirish Kunder, was candid about how her children’s impending university fees helped inspire her to start the venture.
Her YouTube journey began in April 2024 with cooking vlogs featuring herself and her personal chef, Dilip. The series quickly gained traction, accumulating millions of views and subscribers. Today, she has nearly 3 million subscribers on YouTube and over 4.5 million followers on Instagram. Her channel’s light-hearted and relatable approach has struck a chord with audiences, turning it into a popular platform for both entertainment and cooking inspiration.
Khan expressed how much she enjoys working and how it fuels her sense of happiness. “Your life can’t revolve around another person. I feel happiness comes from within, and from your work. Work gives me a lot of pleasure,” she said. “For me, I can work until I’m 80 because my work doesn’t depend on either my looks or, clearly, my body.” This is a refreshing perspective from an industry that often prioritises youthful appearances.
The new episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle—which also features actress Ananya Panday—is set to be released on Prime Video at midnight on Thursday. Farah Khan’s candid insights into her career, YouTube venture, and the pressures of motherhood are sure to resonate with many viewers as she continues to inspire through both her work and her personal journey.
